Jacinda Ardern has announced that from June, all students in New Zealand will have access to free sanitary products saying “There are enough barriers that our children and young people face as they grow up – access to period products shouldn’t be one of them!”.
A recent study in 2020 by QUT in partnership with Share the Dignity Australia found that some students were using socks or rolled up toilet paper or were receiving sanitary items out of the goodness of teacher’s donations. The study also found that in general there is a lack of awareness among students about menstrual management and hygiene.
If you are able to purchase sanitary products be mindful and support brands like Taboo sanitary products as they support women and girls around the world with knowledge and resources to safely manage their periods.
