Understanding and preventing Men’s Violence against Women and Family Violence we need both Men and Women at the table. We have a unique opportunity to hear Michael Flood talk about the ways in which Men are expected and pressured to behave socially, professionally and personally – especially through a rural and remote lens.
Together with our Gippsland wide Free From Violence Coalition, we are hosting a session with Dr. Michael Flood will present:
- an understanding of what is meant by modern masculinity
- what the “Man Box” looks like through a rural and remote lens
You have the opportunity to ask about how these issues influence your work.
Michael is known for his work and contribution to understanding of men’s and boys’ involvements in preventing and reducing violence against women and building gender equality. His most recent work found that young men who conform to traditional definitions of manhood are more likely to suffer harm to themselves, and do harm to others. He is also the author of Engaging Men and Boys in Violence Prevention”, the first book focused on engaging men and boys in the prevention of domestic violence, sexual violence and harassment and abuse.
Our conversations need to incorporate these understandings about the masculine framework and the ideals of masculinity held among young men. Respecting and understanding each other’s perspective is vitally important to us progressing.
