Free Forum for Community Groups
Building inclusive and accessible community organisations
Gippsland Women’s Health and Women with Disabilities Victoria have collaborated to deliver the Here We Are Project across the Wellington Shire. The Here We Are Project aims to build the capacity of the local community to work with and include, women with a disability. One out of five women live with a disability and the chances of a disability increase as we age. However, research shows that the impact of that disability can be lessened or even removed by adjusting the physical and social environment to suit the needs of the individual.
Increasing the accessibility and inclusivity of our community benefits not only women with a disability but the community as a whole. With the NDIS roll out happening in Wellington Shire in 2019, women with a disability will have greater support than ever before to access the community. But it is also important that community and recreation groups know their responsibilities for inclusiveness.
The Here We Are Project is offering community organisations and recreations groups a FREE forum to learn how to better include women with a disability in their services. The forum will include free resources and consultancy until January 2019.
