We engage with women, communities, service providers and government to promote and enhance the health and wellbeing of women across the Gippsland area
Prevention of Violence Against Women
What is Family Violence?
Violence against women occurring within intimate partner relationships is sometimes referred to as domestic violence or family violence. Violence against women includes physical, sexual, economic, psychological and emotional abuse.
One in three adult women has experienced violence, or threats of violence, in their lives, yet 80% of violent incidents against women are not reported to the police or community services.
Why is it important?
Violence against women has repercussions for the quality of life in a local community. There can be far-reaching financial, social, health and psychological consequences.
The impact of violence can also have indirect costs, including the costs to the community of bringing perpetrators to justice or the costs of medical treatment for injured victims.
Our Programs
The Gippsland Respectful Relationships Education in Schools Program is a whole of school approach aimed at respectful relationships and violence prevention within the school community. The program engages with Secondary Schools to implement this program.
