Victorian Family Violence Reforms

Family Violence Reform Strategy

The vision of Victoria’s Family Violence Reform is to uphold the rights of Victorian women and their children, and indeed all Victorians, to live free from family violence. This is underpinned by a commitment to human rights, and, in particular, women’s and children’s rights to live free from violence.

A Right to Safety and JusticeA Right to Safety and Justice: Strategic Framework to Guide Continuing Family Violence Reform in Victoria 2010 –2020 is the Government’s framework providing a clear mandate for how we will continue to improve our responses to victims of family violence. It is about securing the safety and wellbeing of family violence victims and holding perpetrators to account for their use of violence. It involves shared responsibility across the system and the community to end violence, and to provide all Victorian women and their children access to safety and justice in their communities.

It also complements A Right to Respect, Victoria’s Plan to Prevent Violence Against Women, Victoria’s long-term plan to prevent violence against women before it occurs.  Read more about the reforms here
