November 25 is the United Nation's declared International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women often known as White Ribbon Day. The following 16 days is 16 Days of Activism a global campaign to raise awareness of gender-based violence.

South Gippsland Shire advance gender equity and diversity

South Gippsland Shire Council Says No to Family Violence

  • 26 South Gippsland towns will include family violence prevention messages.
  • Council vehicles will carry family violence prevention messages around the Shire.
  • Town businesses can decorate their shopfronts with the touch of orange by requesting a display kit.
  • People wanting to show their support to end family violence on social media will have the opportunity to take a photo in a selfie frames across the shire or beside the pull up banner in Council’s reception, Leongatha.
  • Fundraising morning teas are encouraged in workplaces across the Shire to raise funds for local family violence services.

Milpara Community House and  Korumburra Community

Korumburra Oranges the World

Inviting local community members, businesses, schools etc to take part in some way to colour Korumburra orange:

Milpara Community House: Orange plants;Take Action, Go Orange’ toolkit available; Orange emails, daily Facebook posts and orange theme.

Commercial Street is turning orange: decorating a shop fronts; dressing the trees in town centre with bunting, lanterns and balloons; reverse graffiti; orange council plantings.

24 November to 10 December

By the South Coast Partnership to Prevent Men’s Violence against Women

  • Orange plants in raised street beds across Bass Coast
  • Signage at town entry points in South Gippsland
  • Posters, Flyers & Marketing material displayed in 1500 shop windows across South Gippsland and Bass Coast
  • MATE Workshop - 30th November 1pm – 3pm at Wonthaggi Neighbourhood Centre.
  • Orange coloured donuts and coffee scrolls at Connells Bakery, Wonthaggi
  • Neighbourhood Houses to display posters, flyers and marketing material
  • BBQ at Bunnings in Wonthaggi – Friday the 24th of November with SalvoCare Eastern
