PRODUCTION OR REPRODUCTION?
FER ALF
ALFORD, Katrina
An economic history of women in Australia 1788-1850. From the outset of European settlement in Australia, the twin and equally pressing needs were for production for economic development and reproduction to ensure a growing population and to dilute the presence of convicts and the pernicious influence of an extreme sex imbalance. convict, emancipist and immigrant women were discouraged from entering the sphere of production and exhorted to marry and raise large families. They did, nevertheless, perform vital productive labour, paid and unpaid. This is the first economic history of women in all ausralian colonies from the first decade of European settlement to the mid nineteenth century.

LONG TERM EFFECTS ON WOMEN FROM ASSISTED CONCEPTION
FER NAT
National Health and Medical Research Council
Techniques to assist conception have changed rapidly over the past two decades. In vitro fertilisation (IVF) and embryo transfer were originally used only in women with blocked fallopian tubes. Now these techniques are used for infertility caused by a range of disorders of either partner. Clomiphene citrate and human menopausal gonadotropins have been used for thirty years to assist conception, originally in cases of failed ovulation. HCC was concerned that despite such long experience there had been no systematic assessment in Austalia of the long term effects of these products on women. Follow up appeared to have been largely confined to the outcome of pregnancy. This book contains all research and information.
