HOLDING ON, LETTING GO
DIS DRU
DRURY, John;; HUTCHINSON, Lynne;; WRIGHT, Jon
Sex and sexuality are sensitive, complex issues when a parent has a child with learning disabilities. When that child grows into an adult, these issues become fraught with anxiety. While parents have duty to protect their child from abuse, that child is also a 'sexual' being, with a right to be so. As a parent, is your need to protect your child's vulnerability criticised as over-protectiveness? Should you be holding on, or letting go?

The book is divided into two parts: the first deals with the health and welfare and sporting issues with an up to date chapter on biotechnology. The second part covers the "politics of care", covers the deinstitution of disabled people and whether it has been properly accomplished. The authors maintain that disabled people are still excluded and discuss in depth government policy and exclusion There is a section on disability and refugess and who is allowed to enter the country. Authors call for a genuine attempt to incorporate disability into policies, calls for a more international effort to reduce discrimination, to include people with disabilities in policy making, for those in policy making to understand disability and finally for a change in culture: to stop making disability a tragedy or catastrophe. Also calls for educational institutions to be more responsible for access

"I USED TO REALLY LIKE HIM" - a story about unwanted touching
DIS HOR
HORSLEY, Philomena
This is a story about the special bodies we all have, and about different kinds of touching. When other people touch us it can feed good. Being hugged or stroked or kissed, or even tickled, can give us nice feelings, especially when we really like the person touching us. But sometimes when we are touched it can feel strange, or awful, or it can hurt, and we want the person to stop. This story is about what happened to Katie when someone she knew touched and looked at her body in ways she didn't like, and what Katie decided to do about it.

THE HEALTH NEEDS OF INTELLECTUALLY AND PHYSICALLY DISABLED WOMEN IN THE SALE AND MAFFRA DISTRICT
DIS LUC
LUCAS, Jill
The health needs of intellectual and physically disabled women in the Sale and Maffra District was undertaken by myself for two reasons. One was that the Gippsland Women's Health Service Inc. felt that they could target the above women in a more proficient way if they had a knowledge of their health needs, and the second reason was that having worked in the disability field for two years, I had the networks, the background knowledge and the time to find this information and present this project in the hope that disabled women would be targeted more professionally.
